Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to post, but did want to get a couple of new pictures up of Ethan. I took him to play with Jack last week and he had a blast playing in the tunnel in the back yard. I love the picture that shows those big blue eyes. Thank you Pop and Grandaddy for passing down those beautiful eyes!

I’m taking a small break from working on this week’s church bulletin, and realized I have been in a blog rut (I guess you could call that a blut) lately. Things here are great – just busy. Clay has been sick a couple of days this week, but thankfully he’s feeling better now. Ethan has entered a new whiny phase where he thinks that he can get whatever he wants by whining loud enough. We’re planning our family vacation for next weekend – San Antonio baby! We’re leaving Thursday night and hope to drive while Ethan’s sleeping. We’ll hit Sea World Friday, do the river walk thing Saturday and let Ethan ride the boat, then head to New Braunfels Sunday to visit our friend Andy while he preaches there, and take Ethan to a new and amazing children’s museum that I read about in Family Fun magazine (by the way, if you have kids and don’t get that magazine – get it!). Oh, and I realized this morning while in my closet after my shower that I don’t think I’ve done laundry in almost a week which means I’m now wearing tier 2 under garments. Sigh. Hope everyone’s having a great week!

I should have done this a couple of weeks ago, but I want to ask everyone reading to please stop and say a prayer for Macy Dale. She is the 2 1/2 year old daughter of some friends we met many years ago at Prestoncrest Church of Christ – Layton & Summer Dale. Macy was born with a lot of health problems, and God has seen her through every one. About 2 weeks ago Macy had to go in for open heart surgery to correct some abnormalities of her heart. The surgery went well, and she went home a few days later. Yesterday they took her back to the hospital for some follow up work, and they found a lot of fluid on her lungs, so she’s back in the ICU. Ethan and I left Sunday after a great Father’s Day lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack and headed to Tyler to see my grandmother – Meme – for her 78th birthday. My mom was supposed to go with us, but a bad case of strep throat kept her in bed. Anyway, we got to Meme’s house around 4:00 and it only took Ethan about 3 minutes to warm back up to her and they instantly became best friends. He was walking around her house saying, “Meeeeeeeemeeeeeeeeeee!” If she put her socks and shoes on, Ethan had to do the same. When she was fixing her hair for church Sunday night, he had to have a brush, too. She made a GREAT breakfast Monday morning, and Ethan was right there with cup and spoon in hand “cooking” with her.

I know it meant a lot for us to be there with her and just spend some quality time, but I know it meant as much – if not more – to Ethan and me. She is such an amazing and Godly woman that I couldn’t help but pray that I’m just like her someday. While we were sitting down to eat dinner Sunday night after church, she got a call from one of her friends who is also a widow saying that she was sick and really needed a few groceries. Without even the slightest hesitation Meme just apologized to us for having to leave, got her keys and headed to the grocery store. When she got back she just kept talking about how she really admired her friend for the way she is always giving to others and wished she could be more like that. I guess it goes to show that no matter how old we get, if we really try to live as a Christian, God will always show us ways to grow and do more for him.

All of that to say that I wouldn’t have traded the past 2 days for anything. About halfway home Ethan was asking for Meme – this is the same child who could barely say Meme on Friday. It’s just like when people say they know Spanish, but they don’t really KNOW it until they’re in a Spanish-speaking environment … I guess Ethan really KNOWS his Meme now.

I’ve been wanting to take Ethan to the putt-putt close to our house for a while now, but it’s either been too hot or not a good time. Well, Tuesday night it was still too hot, but we figured it’s not going to get any cooler so we went. The whole way there Ethan was saying, “putt-putt?” Sometimes it sounded a little more like “butt-butt”…

We had such a great time! The course was very nice, and Ethan stayed pretty interested for about 10 holes. Then he was more interested in the scenery, but that’s okay. About hole 3 I asked him if he wanted help, which he did, so I helped him line up his ball and his little plastic putter. And that little guy got a HOLE IN ONE! The picture of him getting the ball is after we did a little celebratory dance for his first hole in one (don’t worry, we were the only ones on the course). I’m thinking we’ll probably visit again this summer!

Ethan (still known as “Mickey” by Jack) finally got to hang out with Jack again. It seems like it’s been forever (even though it’s really only been a couple of weeks), but the dynamic duo was back in action today. They are so much fun to watch together since they’ll play with each other now, and not just near each other. We have a few sharing issues still, but they really do love being together. And sweet little Josie (known now as “Jakie” by Jack) just takes it all in and tries to keep up with the boys. Thanks, Davis fam, for being so great to us – we love you guys.

According to Ethan, the best seat in the house is on top of the paint can in our breakfast room. It is so funny to see him sitting there because he always has a couple of cars with him and he just rolls them back and forth on the window sill. I’m not sure how he discovered this seat, but I guess it’s just the right height for his little legs, and it also has a great place for cars. He sits there every night when I’m cooking dinner and just plays by himself. Maybe we’ll catch it on video soon because it’s really quite funny.

I knew it would happen one day, but yesterday was THAT day. May 31st marked the first day that I took Ethan’s laundry out of the washing machine and found a “treasure.” I heard something clanking around in there as I was putting stuff in the dryer, and there, hiding under the very last sock that was stuck to the bottom, was this green sheep. Up until this point I haven’t found any pocket treasures in Ethan’s laundry, but since 1/2 of Ethan’s genes are Clay’s, I knew it wouldn’t take him long. I usually find guitar picks in the washing machine from Clay, but sometimes it’s change, millions of pieces from a lunch receipt, dollar bills, business cards, etc. And yesterday Ethan joined the ranks. Ah, what a momentous occasion – I just hope I never find any treasures with legs…
